Our story, since 1989
Dr. Rosala performed his first implant surgery in 1991, in Germany. He fell in love with these islands, sat the American boards, and moved his family to Hawaii in 2008. Since March 2018 his practice has been here, in Manoa Marketplace.

Dental implants
A titanium root fuses with the jawbone over about three to six months, then carries a crown, a bridge or a full or partial denture.
Direct composite veneers
The same composite used for white fillings, shaped onto the teeth in one appointment. Often with no injection and no grinding of the natural teeth.
Zoom WhiteSpeed whitening
In the chair, with a variable intensity setting for comfort, whitening up to eight shades in one visit. Custom take-home trays are the slower option.
CariVu cavity detection
Near-infrared light shines through the tooth to show cavities and cracks, including the ones between teeth, with no radiation at all.

A 62-year-old patient who had lost every tooth but two lower canines. Planned with a Digital Volume Tomography scan, then bone grafts, sinus grafts on both sides, 8 implants above and 7 below, with full-ceramic zirconia bridges and crowns. Surgery and restoration both by Dr. Rosala.
Two implants at 83
Two implants placed with a sinus augmentation at the same time. After healing, a full-ceramic zirconia fixed bridge was made and cemented.
Every back tooth, replaced
A patient who had lost all of his back teeth, reconstructed with 6 implants, sinus grafts on both sides and porcelain crowns.

Direct composite veneers for a young patient with a missing front tooth, a shifted midline, worn front teeth and an open bite. No injection, and no grinding of the natural teeth.

After your treatment
Dr. Rosala publishes care instructions for extractions and surgery, root canals, crowns and bridges, deep cleanings and veneers. If something does not feel right, call the office or his cell.

Common questions
What people ask before they book.
How often should I see the dentist?
At least twice a year. An exam can reveal early signs of decay and disease that you cannot see or feel yet, and a professional cleaning removes plaque from the places brushing misses. A routine cleaning takes 30 minutes to an hour.
I am nervous about dentists. Is that a problem?
Not here. Dr. Rosala’s approach is gentle and unhurried, he listens first, and he explains what he is doing and why. Many of the patients who write to us mention injections they did not feel. If you are anxious, say so when you book.
Will I be sent to a specialist for implants, a root canal or gum surgery?
Usually not. Dr. Rosala places and restores implants himself, including the bone and sinus grafting, and does root canals, retreatments and gum surgery in the same office. Most patients are treated start to finish in one location.
Do you use mercury fillings or metal crowns?
No. Dr. Rosala holds diplomas in naturopathic medicine and acupuncture, and the practice provides mercury-free restorations and metal-free, all-porcelain crowns and bridges.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe or shooting pain, bleeding, a knocked-out tooth, a chipped tooth with sharp edges, a loose adult tooth, or an infection such as an abscess. Call (808) 988-3500 right away. If a tooth is knocked out, keep it in milk and try to reach us within 30 minutes, when there is the best chance of saving it.
ClearCorrect or Invisalign?
Both straighten teeth with clear, removable aligners. ClearCorrect is the more affordable of the two and uses a very thin plastic, which is also more prone to wear. Dr. Rosala will tell you which suits your teeth.
How long does teeth whitening last?
Usually one to three years before any darkening is noticed, and after that it is typically touch-ups only. Zoom in the chair is the fastest route; custom take-home trays take a few days or weeks.
